After releasing their eponymous Stone Roses album in 1989 to great critical acclaim, these mop headed lads became the poster boys of the Madchester scene in the early 90's, until their untimely disintegration with their much maligned album, The Second Coming in 1994.
Lead vocalist and songsmith Ian Brown went off to pursue his solo work and had success with his hit F.E.A.R, which received rave reviews and featured heavily on national radio playlists. Bassist Mani Mounfield, also stayed in the public eye when he joined Primal Scream in 1996. Iconic guitarist John Squire concentrated on his artwork which was inspired by the work of Jackson Pollock, while drummer Reni disappeared off the drumming radar.
The new album will see all of the old band members: Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Mani, and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren, getting together in the studio like old times and making some of the chiming melodies and guitar solos we all remember so fondly. If their tracks can have the symbiosis of old hits like Waterfall, I am the Resurrection, and Fools Gold, then fans will be in for a visceral treat.
Nothing has leaked out of the studio as of yet, and insiders close to the band are remaining tight lipped; but there are some well-founded rumours that a number of tracks are well on their way to completion. Ian has referred to the new songs in the tradition of "psychedelic pop", which would indicate the new material is more closely related to their debut album than 'The Second Coming'. Again, very good news.
It was announced in October 2011 that the band would reunite for a highly anticipated world tour in 2012, something the general public have been clamouring for since they called it a day. The tour will commence with three very special homecoming shows in Manchester, their spiritual home.

Growing up in a family with six children and being the only musician, Ozonna provided himself with a distinctive outlet. The family moved often, and though they were supportive of him and his musical dreams; it was music that was his constant. As a boy, he sparked an interest in writing poetry and from there began performing at open-mic nights. Soon after, he picked up the guitar, and when that did not go as planned, the most unique and fitting instrument fell into his hands. Ozonna discovered the ukulele.
Rawjamtv interviewed Ozonna and found that the first songs he learned were nothing more than his own! No classic ‘Brown-Eyed Girl' or ‘Free Fallin' for this guy. Ozonna had bigger plans for his music. He wanted to sing and perform as a ‘way to express myself and empower others to do the same'. Rawjamtv asked if Ozonna writes all of his music, ‘Yes. It proves something to myself. A feeling of accomplishment that you cannot recreate. It is Art.' Ozonna may be young and stubborn, but he knows where he is going and he is very much-determined to get there: solo style.
Seventeen year-old Ozonna also juggles! He juggles a busy schedule with school, constantly writing music and practicing, hanging with friends and performing in his newest music video. How does he keep up? Well besides the fact that seventeen year-old guys have a lot of energy, energy drinks and lattes also come in handy. ;)
You heard it here: Ozonna just shot a music video for his single ‘I Love Me'. This song openly illustrates Ozonna's personality and his musical message: ‘It was a simple decision to choose this song as the single. I found the ukulele chords first, then something just opened up and the lyrics came out.' What is the album about? ‘Self-acceptance. It may come off as egotistical, but it is meant to empower people to accept themselves'.
Guess what? Ozonna's younger sister, Adora, participated in the music video as a fashion designer! Rawjamtv asked Ozonna about his own fashion style and if he chooses the clothes he wears depending on his mood, he replied, ‘No. My clothes make my mood'.
Ozonna is spot-on and fearless. Rawjamtv wondered how Ozonna handles making a mistake on stage? ‘Just keep going; that is all you can do'.
Ozonna is part of Downtown Artists, an artist development agency based here in London. They spot the fresh faces and new talents. You can check out videos and clips from brand new artists @ downtownartists.co.uk.
Look out this November for the release of Ozonna's first video ‘I Love Me', and his full album in December!

So R.E.M. has decided to call it a day! Thirty-one years after getting together, the trio have reached the end of the road. The split was announced via the band’s website, with a statement from the lead singer, Michael Stipe. The frontman was philosophical about the decision and maintained that it was time to go: “A wise man once said - 'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave. We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we're going to walk away from it.” The Grammy award winning group, who has sold more than 85 million albums globally, released its first album ‘Murmur’ in 1983. The first of 15 albums, 'Murmur’, although not ground-breaking, was relatively new and the distinctive sound of Stipe on lead vocals, Peter Buck on guitar and Mike Mills on bass was to become one of the most recognisable of the 1980s and 1990s. Since their debut album, the band has released 14 studio albums: Reckoning (1984), Fables of the Reconstruction (1985), Life’s Rich Pageant (1986), Document (1987), Green (1988), Out of Time (1991), Automatic For The People (1992), Monster (1994), New Adventures in Hi-Fi (1996), Up (1998), Reveal (2001), Around the Sun (2004), Accelerate (2008), and Collapse Into Now (2011). REM has also impressed the critics over the years, winning three Grammy awards in 1992, and the Brit award’s Best International Group in 1993 and 1995. In 2007, REM deservedly got its place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Their break-up will be hard to take for their many fans. Never has Everybody Hurts been more appropriate.

Over two years after his premature death, Michael Jackson is once again back in the news. It’s another court case and although this time it’s his doctor who is in the dock, the intense media interest and wall-to-wall coverage shows that Michael Jackson is just as big news now as he was when he was alive. As Conrad Murray fights charges of involuntary manslaughter and to clear his name, experts predict that the trial will only serve to increase Michael Jackson’s posthumous sales. Since his death, Jackson’s tracks have been downloaded more than 16 million times and there have been 10.6 million sales of albums. Although the bulk of the sales understandably came in the months following the King of Pop’s passing, sales since 2009 have remained steady. Figures show that from his death in June 2009 to December of the same year 11 million tracks and 9 million albums were sold. However, since then there have been a further 5.3 million tracks sold and 1.6 million albums. The three albums that account for the bulk of these sales are ‘Number Ones’, ‘This Is It’, the album taken from rehearsals for the ill-fated ‘This Is It’ tour, and ‘Michael’, released towards the end of 2010. Already in 2011, Michael Jackson has sold over 1.5 million tracks and five-hundred thousand albums. It shows the affection in which he is still held. The misfortunes of Dr Conrad Murray could well prove to serve as yet another boost for the Jackson family.

Beady Eye: Life After Noel

When Oasis announced their split in August 2009, few people raised their eyebrows. The Gallagher brothers had been openly at each other’s throats for years. Perhaps of more surprise, was that it hadn’t happened sooner. The fall-out was predictably acrimonious, with Liam blaming Noel and Noel blaming Liam. Oasis fans were despondent and many felt it was the end of the road. However, two years later, 4 of the original band members are still together, making music that sounds oddly familiar; essentially, Oasis still exists, moving seamlessly on without the older Gallagher. Beady Eye, comprising Liam on lead vocals, Andy Bell, Chris Sharrock and Gem Archer, are back writing, playing and touring. Their first album, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, although yet to receive the acclaim of early Oasis albums, is a credible debut album, peaking at number 3 in the UK charts and 31 in the US charts. Unsurprisingly, the sound is not that different to Oasis. What is rather more surprising is that Noel’s claims to be the only one who could write music are looking a little foolish. True, it’s not as good as ‘Definitely Maybe’, but it is as good as some of the later Oasis albums. The album went gold on release and the band managed to sell out their UK tour on the back of its success. The band now hope to travel to South Korea, Japan and Taiwan before heading to Abu Dhabi, Europe and South America before coming back to the UK in time for a series of concerts in November where they will perform in Blackpool, Sheffield, Birmingham and Swindon, before playing London’s 02 Arena. Noel may be regretting one family feud too many.

A quick glance at the current London gig guide shows that no matter how much we like to talk of recession and cut backs, the capital’s music scene is alive and well. Over the next few months, venues such as Wembley Arena, Hammersmith Apollo and the 02 Arena will welcome heavyweights Rihanna and Bryan Adams, will go back in time to celebrate Def Leppard and Duran Duran and will cash in on the ubiquitous local-girl made good, Adele Adkins. It’s a veritable treat for music lovers in the capital, offering an eclectic mix for those who can afford it. However, as these celebrated artists play to sell-out crowds, elsewhere in London, local bands will play to much smaller crowds in far less celebrated surroundings. Bubbling beneath the surface of London’s mainstream music scene, away from the bright lights of the capital’s mega-venues and without the exposure of the nauseating X-Factor, thousands of artists and bands are writing, practicing and performing, patiently waiting for their break. One band surely on the cusp of their first big break is London-based outfit, Snow Ghosts, an inspired but surprising collaboration between Throwing Snow and Augustus Ghost. Augustus Ghost’s lead singer, Hannah Cartwright, again takes the microphone and her haunting, achingly-beautiful voice mesmerises from the first note. At first, it might seem strange to take Cartwright’s Irish folksy sound and mix it with the modern, electronic sounds of Throwing Snow. Yet, it is an experiment that clearly works. Her lyrics, dripping with imagery grab you at once and don’t let go until long after the music has finished. They are currently working on new material, and have one EP available to buy, Lost at Sea, available from Blackacre records. However, this is a powerful debut and a reminder that while London still attracts the big names, you don’t always have to pay big money to hear world-class music.

Music is not complete without a music video these days. We human’s are very visual. We appreciate a song more, and its content, if it is well portrayed and can be seen by a human eye. Video can help us to easily understand the meaning of the song. It brings to life the song in general. There are videos that are generally friendly and can be watch by all ages. Some may depict scenes that are not suitable for general patronage. Hence, there should be a regulating body that will be responsible for the review of music video materials. The music video of the song “Closer” was controversial in the year 1994. The video contains profane scene and languages. It was May 12th 1994 when the video was first aired under the direction of Mark Romanek. Closer was sung by the Nine Inch Nails. What made it controversial is that it depicts animal cruelty and sexuality. It is showing the video of a nude woman wearing a crucifix mask, an image of a monkey on the crucifix cross, and other obscene scenes. Not to mention, the song also contains profane languages and lyrics. Jeremy by Pearl Jam in 1992 also bought about controversy. The video is about a boy named Jeremy Wade Dell who committed suicide by means of shooting himself inside his classroom, in front of his teacher and classmates. The director of the video is Mark Pellington. Not to mention, the video was awarded as best video of the year by MTV Video Music Awards. In the year 1989, Madonna who is a controversial artist has made herself more of a controversy because of her song Like A Prayer. The Pope was angry when he saw the music video of the song. It depicts a video of a holy cross being burned. After releasing the official music video of the song, the Pepsi Company cancelled their commercial that starred Madonna due to the outcry against her video. The Prodigy’s song titled Smack My B*ch Up in the year 1997 is also a whole bunch of controversy. The song is believed to be violating the rights of women. It was under the direction of Swede Jonas Akerlund. The video also depicts driving while under the influence of alcohol, vandalism, usage of illicit drugs, and sex. Eventually, the video was banned because of its obscene content. However, despite of the controversy it was still nominated four times in the MTV Video Music Awards. It has also won the Breakthrough Video and the Best Dance Video. A 2004 song by Eric Prydz titled Call On Me also earned a controversy. The music video was directed by Huse Monfaradi. It featured women in their classic 1980s style aerobic outfits doing sensual gym routines. The song hit number one in Singles Chart in Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. In Australia, Call On Me was the highest downloadable music video of all time. Though these songs became popular because of controversies, truth remains that these were all work of art. Its main purpose is to entertain and not to offend any social groups in the society. The main essence is to express ideas, opinions, and character.
